Multi-level BOM in plain English

Production · 2026-05-14 · 8 min read

A BOM (Bill of Materials) is just a recipe. For a single product, you list the ingredients. Easy.

But what if one of those ingredients is itself something you manufacture from raw stock? That's a sub-assembly. And that's where multi-level BOM begins.

A real example: Bajaj Tier-2 supplier in Pune

One supplier makes a brake caliper bracket assembly. The BOM looks like:

To produce 100 assemblies, the system explodes the BOM and tells you exactly how much casting, bolts, washers, coolant, and dip to issue. Scrap % is built in.

This is impossible in Tally without manual journal entries. It's native in any real manufacturing ERP — including WAM ERP's Growth plan.
